THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

Seriál sa zameriava na život 17-ročnej študentky Eleny Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), ktorá sa zamiluje do 162-ročného upíra Stefana Salvatora (Paul Wesley). Ich vzťah sa komplikuje po príchode Stefanovho zlého staršieho brata Damona Salvatora (Ian Somerhalder), ktorý sa vracia do mesta, aby sa pomstil svojmu mladšiemu bratovi. Obaja bratia pociťujú náklonnosť k Elene, čiastočne aj preto, že im pripomína ich starú lásku Katherine Pierce. Odhalia, že Elena je potomok Katherine, ktorá sa nakoniec vracia s plánmi, ako ublížiť ústrednej trojici.

Séria sa odohráva vo fiktívnom mestečku Mystic Falls, ktoré je opradené zvláštnou minulosťou, už od príchodu anglických emigrantov, ktorí mesto osídlili v 17. storočí. Ďalšie dejové línie sa točia okolo ostatných obyvateľov mesta, najväčšmi okolo Eleninho mladšieho brata Jeremyho (Steven R. McQueen), jej najlepších priateliek Bonnie Bennet (Katerina Graham) a Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola), a ich spoločných priateľov Tylera Lockwooda (Michael Trevino) a Matta Donovana (Zach Roerig). Mestská politika je pod taktovkou potomkov zakladateľov, tzv "rady zakladateľov", ktorá má na starosti predovšetkým ochranu mesta pred upírmi, i keď sa v ňom nachádzajú aj iné nadprirodzené bytosti, ako vlkodlaci, čarodejnice, hybridi, duchovia a dvojníci. Medzi zakladateľov patria aj rodiny Salvatore, Gilbert, Fell, Forbes a Lockwood.

The series follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), a teenage girl who falls deeply in love with a 163-year-old vampire named Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Their relationship becomes increasingly complicated as Stefan's vicious and malevolent older brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhaldes) returns with a plan to wreak havoc on the town, seeking revenge against his younger brother for turning him into a vampire against his will. Both brothers begin to show affection towards Elena, mainly because of her resemblance to their past love Katherine Pierce. It is revealed that Elena is a descendant of Katherine, who eventually returns with plans against the trio.

The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a town charged with supernatural history since its settlement of migrants from New England in the late 17th century. Additional storylines revolve around the other inhabitants of the town, most notably Elena's younger brother Jeremy Gilber (Steven R. McQueen) her best friends Bonnie Bennett (katerina Graham) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola), and their mutual friends Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) and Matt Donovon (Zach Roerig). The town's politics are orchestrated by descendants of the original founding families, all comprising a "Founders' Council". Some of the founding families of Mystic Falls include the Salvatores, the Gilberts, the Fells, the Forbes, and the Lockwoods. They guard the town mainly from vampires, although there are other supernatural threats such as werewolves, witches, ghosts, and hybrids and doppelgangers.
